Contest Brief

We are looking for ideas for new apps for runners. It is expected that the runner has his/her phone mounted to his/her arm and uses earphones to listen to music, stories, announcements or instructions. His main method of input is provided by sensors like GPS or accelerometer.

What exactly are we looking for?
* Gaming elements to motivate runners and to bring diversity into running sessions.
* An incremental concept that makes it possible to deliver an interesting app as soon as possible. For example think of 30 day cycles (or even less), and after every cycle it should be possible to deliver a new, fully functional version of the app.
* A clear and complete concept, ideally accompanied by wireframes, flowcharts, etc.
* An app that is easy to use for every runner. For example most runners don't want to use the touchscreen during the run; in many cases runners have to follow certain paths and cannot change direction arbitrarily; some runner might want to use the app on a treadmill.

Some ideas and hints to get you started:
* Look at https://www.zombiesrungame.com/ to see an example of this genre.
* You could develop a strategy game, where resources are collected during running and used for buying buildings and units.
* You could develop a roleplaying game, where running influences the character and the story.
* You could include single player and multiplayer modes, either for teaming up or for competitions.

One week to go! Time to put the finishing touches to your ideas.
Depending on their submissions in the final week the best chances to be in the race about the price money have: crazypyxl, yellowB and AmeriPaddy. Keep it rolling :)

I have a few ideas that I'd like to develop, but before I spend a lot of time on that, I'd like to confirm that you only need a developed concept as opposed to technological development. I'm confident that you'll like the ideas, but I couldn't begin to do any programming.

Yeah - a concept is what i need! The most important thing is an interesting idea that provides the player with long-term fun. I've got the development team. What you do need to consider is the user experience: which sensors can be used, what does the user need to do during the workout (e.g. consider that most people don't want to touch the screen during running), etc.

Think twice about posting your games here everyone. He will just tell you later that he already had that idea! He is all about collecting as many games as he can for the price of one!

Unfortunately, Freelancer does not let me see the entry area of withdrawn entries. Because you had withdrawn some of your entries very quickly again (probably the once with the more specific ideas), I could not even check them out and also have no idea how original they were. You could create a fake entry or reopen the entry where to responded to discuss things.

To all contestants: Many technical details are similar in different contest entries and also to what I have thought about already. Coming up with interesting stories, specific events and tasks, and other creative elements will increase your chance to win this contest dramatically. A technically simple app with a high level of creativity is better than a complex app where creative work still has to be done later to make it really interesting.

Alright, my idea for multiple games gaining resources from a core running module isn't the way you'd like to go about this.
I'll leave those submissions on page and start from scratch.

some details like giving clear instructions ("follow the path to your right" instead of "120°"), some details about potential stories ... the actual game ... with most entries i'm still waiting for ideas considering gaming ... i already had many of the technical ideas proposed in your and other entries ... what i miss in my person and also in the entries so far is the creativity to create an interesting storyline

Any chance of this project being sealed? I would be very reluctant to upload my entire proposal without it being sealed. If not, i will have to create a much shorter overview of the concept.

      Hi contest holder :)

I agree with this suggestion. If you could please seal the project to protect our game ideas and for you to be able to receive more interesting and unique entries, that would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

I am working on my proposal now and would love to share it with you once done (and hopefully when the project is sealed).

Thanks again! :) I will also create an overview of the game just in case the project wouldn't be sealed.
