Cosmetic plastic surgery Most people are dissatisfied with the way they look and crave for attaining forms which may be alien to them; something which is not gifted to them naturally. A person’s ego is boosted a great deal if he adorns his most cherished appearance. His confidence doubles and he becomes more social. One such method to get that much sought after guise is to turn to cosmetic plastic surgery. The concept of changing one’s look is not new. It has been there since the ancient times. Cosmetic plastic surgery may consist of reconstructive plastic surgery. The very words “cosmetic” and”plastic” are explanatory enough. Cosmetic means to add a beauty angle to the final outcome and plastic is the component to be used to attain the goal. It is not actually plastic but comprises of thin slivers of skin tissues which is grafted to modify the desired area. Cosmetic plastic surgery involves taking skin grafts from the donor which may be of: • Self – skin is taken from another part of the body of the recipient himself. In case it is not found lacking, it is possible to culture it artificially. • Another donor of same species – skin taken from a donor of the recipient’s class • A donor of different species – skin extracted from another class than the recipient’s Cosmetic plastic surgery is resorted to in case of disfigurement or simply to enhance the exterior human form. The former is turned to in case of accidents, burns or the like and the latter, used mostly by females who want to alter their looks for the better. In 2006, in US alone, the number of cases of cosmetic/beauty surgery was as high as 11 billion! A large number of them comprised mainly of: • “Tummy tuck”, medically known as abdominoplasty • Blepharoplasty – correcting the shape of eyelids • Mammoplasty – either done to increase, decrease or lift breasts • Buttock lift or reduction • Rhinoplasty – altering the shape of the nose. • Altering the shape of lip, brow, cheeks, forehead, ears or removal of body fat. Cosmetic plastic surgery is found to be very useful in ridding anomalies or congenital defects and also a post birth deformity like the ones which may affect human beings if they are wounded or suffer burns. Reconstruction surgery is a category of plastic surgery wherein the person can change the natural shape of his contours. Regardless of what one wants done via cosmetic plastic surgery, one will have a whole lot of apprehensions in one’s mind. It is a good idea to consult a qualified, experienced plastic surgeon, collect ample information about the procedures, the cost involved and the post surgery precautions and care before making up your mind.  less
