In particular China is growing into a superpower and likely to overtake the USA much sooner than anticipated
Pressure on UK on manage its economy better
Potential for conflict:
Present government seeking changes and is looking to the private sector to provides the economic recovery, thus placing pressure on the public sector
Public sector pay is standardised throughout the UK, except for specific areas (e.g. London Allowance) so in some places (e.g. Cornwall) public sector pay is much greater than the local norm. The government wants public sector pay to reflect local norms
Public sector budget cuts
Reasons for optimism:
