Referral Assessment Brief
In Phase 1 you were given £10,000 to invest in a company listed on the London Stock Exchange. You needed to invest in a company that you thought would do well over the year and give you a good return.
Your share price should have been monitored from Phase 1 onwards. For this referral assignment, you should continue monitoring its performance up to Tues 30th July 2013. You will find various links on the main BREO site in Phase 1 Learning Materials weeks 2 & 3.
In this assessment, the questions below are to guide you. You can explore additional issues if you want to. The appropriate style for “reviews” of this sort is something between an essay and a report. Use headings relating to the questions (including others if you look at other issues). You may have a conclusion to the assignment. You do not need the conventional structure of a business report. You MUST include graphs of your own and/or downloaded from the financial websites.
You need to analyse the reasons for what happened to your chosen shares, comparing your company (or companies, if you switched companies in one of the share trading windows during the year) with other relevant businesses and the sector. You need information about what was happening with your company to explain the performance.
The assessment should cover the following areas and form a complete review of your investment experience up to 30th July 2013.
An explanation of why you selected the shares in which you chose to invest.
A graphical representation of the value of your shares over the time period being reviewed, and a comparison of how the shares performed relative to a suitable comparison (e.g. the FTSE 100, the FTSE All Share Index, the relevant sector etc).
An explanation of how you judged whether or not this was a good performance.
An explanation of your decisions as to whether to keep or sell your shares in each of the trading windows, and your reasons for choosing any new shares that you may have bought.
Some discussion regarding the future of your portfolio, what would you do now with your investment?
