We're looking for someone to edit a roughly 16,000 word document such that it is ready for publication in eBook (and possibly hard copy) format.
The work is a biography of a soldier who fought in WWII, and contains a great deal of historical research. Therefore, the ideal candidate would have some track record of editing work that falls into this, or a similar category.
The edit should ensure that the style of the narrative is engaging to the casual reader, yet presents the historical research in a clear and concise manner. It is vital that the essence of the historical research remains unadulterated - there must be no "poetic license" in terms of distorting the facts as they are supplied in the draft.
Presentation of the wider historical context should be harmonious with a narrative that focuses on the subject of the biography. The context should not appear simply as "background noise", yet nor should it blur the intended focus of the work (a biography).
The successful candidate would be a native UK English speaker (UK English would be his/her native language), or would have passed the UK English exam, Level 1.
If there are a number of suitable applicants for this project, we would shortlist 5, who would then be asked to edit the same 500 word passage as part of selection. This work would be unpaid. We would then select the successful candidate on the basis of the quality of the overall bid.
Please note: The successful candidate would not retain any rights to the completed work. All rights to the work, including copyright and reproduction rights, would be entirely owned and controlled by the original author of the work. The successful candidate would not be entitled to take any public credit for work done, nor receive any public acknowledgement or accreditation for the work (although this may later be offered, at the author's discretion).
