Project Description:
I am looking to develop a pda software package that has the ability to run on windows ce or palm software for PDA's This program will simply be a media control interface that connects wirelessly through 802.11b to an exsisting computer(with linix or windows) and trigger the computer to play various media. The PDA however should also display the media being played(mp3, wma, various video, etc.) with typical media controls such as a slider control, skip, play, stop, etc, similar in options to windows media player. An important aspect of this software is that it be simply a client/server program in that the media player on the server computer is doing all of the decoding and playing. The server end of this software should be visually discrete and always running on the server computer. The trick is that that the server software must use an exsisting media player software such as windows media player to actually play and decode the media. Ideally A more descrete media player would be preferred. By making use of a PDA the program should be touch screen and easy to use. Although similar programs exist that can interface completly with a computer, I am looking for a unique one that can be packaged with the server software and be distributed.
In addition to the media player capabilities of the pda(client) software there should be a built-in, easily-accessable universal remote sub program that makes use of the IRDA port of a typical PDA. The universal remote program must simply be learning and does not need any exsisting orperation codes. The IR range should be sufficient to operate the vast majority of A/V devices currently on the market. The interface of the remote should be customizable and visually easy to use. Such remote programs exsist already for inspiration.
I would also like to divuldge the idea of integrating a RF transponder in the pda to control a RF to Infrared converter for the remote control functions. The PDA would still have to "learn" the IR signal from its own port but retransmit the signal through the RF and IR port simotaneously.
Note: the PDA to be used should not be important but the pda must have IRDA port and built in 802.11b adapter

Recap:
-One client program to control and interface with media player(to be installed on latest versions of windows CE or Palm OS)
-One server program to provide access to media player controls and visualization(to be installed on windows or linux os)
-One learning A/V remote interface sub-program with customizable menus
-if possible, a RF output(this technology has been used in a specific Radio shack remote however I am not aware of a simple RF hardware addon for PDA that could be used an minipulated for this purpose

Skills required:
Audio Services, Linux, Windows Desktop
