I need someone to copy edit an academic article prior to submission to an economics/finance journal. Although, one of the authors is a native English speaker, none of our writing skills are particularly strong. The text of the article is approximately 10,000 words.
The copyediting needs to be more than just noting where a comma is missing. On top of correcting any pure grammatical mistakes, numerous sentences need to be restructured to sound intelligent. We have a habit of using the verb “is” too much and several other poor writing habits. The weak writing is not uniform throughout the paper as different members of the team wrote different portions of the paper. In sum, the article needs cleaning up before being submitted.
The structure of the paper is fine and the paragraphs are all in the right places. However, the sentence structure and grammar are our weak points.
The article will be provided in an MS Word file and will be ready for copy editing on December 5th. Ideally, the file would be returned with all of the needed corrections made in the paper within a few days. Obviously, there will be some corrections that will go awry because it is unclear what is meant in the original text or because of the technical features that are unique to the finance discipline. I am not really concerned about this issue because I will compare the original document to the revised document to analyze each and every change that is made in the copy-edit process. The file will need to be returned in MS Word format.
Attached is a one-page sample of the current article that needs copyediting. This sample exemplifies some of the better writing in the current version of the article and is not representative of the entire document. There are many sections that are worse. Also included in the sample document is a one-page sample of what I think exemplifies decent academic writing in financial economics.
There is the potential for future work, about once every two months or so, if this project goes well. These articles are original scholarship and should not be shared with others or posted in other places. My coauthors and I will retain any and all copyrights to the articles, as they are our intellectual property.
Thus, we are looking for a good copy editor. Of course, everyone will say they are good, so evidence of expertise is required.
