Conduct a simple demographic analysis of a given area. Describe the following demographic characteristics: the total population, the age and sex structure (age distribution and sex ratio), the dependency ratio and the population density (people per square kilometre). Examine these indicators for at least two time periods, although more would be preferable since trends are difficult to derive from two points in time. For example, you may examine data for British Columbia for 2001, 2006 and 2011.
Is the population increasing, decreasing, or remaining stationary?
Is the population ageing?
Given the trends that you observed in the data, what do you expect the population to look like (limiting yourself to its size and age-sex structure) in 20 years?
What factors influenced the observed trends?
What factors are likely to influence these trends in the future?
How does the area you are analysing compare with Canada?
