I am looking for an editor/copy editor to edit stories that will appear in a bi-monthly magazine. The topic is motorsports but most of the stories revolve around about people in motorsports. We have a gang of regular contributors, your job would be to receive their stories and edit them for grammer and style. We will have time to go back and forth between writer and editor once or twice before the final version. Among our demographic, our style has been called irreverent, entertaining and fun. As an editor, you must be able to keep the personality, tone and style of the writer intact, while smoothing out the story to improve it's readability. Most of our writers will appreciate the feedback of an editor and will be thrilled to work with you.
We have been doing this work in-house but we are flirting with the idea of contracting it out. We do not have a lot of money, like any publication we struggle from issue to issue, but we are exploring options.
I would like you to give me an idea of cost per article, cost per word, cost per issue, etc. We are looking for a budgeted solution to make this transition.
