Project Thesis and Research - Systems Integration: Business Systems Re-engineering perspective

Scope and Objective: The main objective of the project is to develop at least 12 basic modules/chapters which will form the subject material for university’s undergraduate coursework. Currently, no subject at the university covers this topic as a subject in itself. Since, more and more business entities are moving towards integrating their various business systems into a single system to improve business performance; I believe very soon it will be essential for the universities to include this topic as a subject into their coursework to compete with the rising demands of the professional world. This project has a great potential to grow enormously in the future and can be extended in the field of emerging technologies such as clouds, real time systems and web technologies. The scope of the project will be limited to the conceptual boundaries which will include case studies, relevant theories and research on processes involved to gather business sub-systems into a major system interconnecting the data flow throughout the whole system. The project will be based on an assumption that there is a lack of efficiency within the business systems that operate independently and there are chances of data getting lost in the interconnecting process. Therefore, integrating these separate sub-systems will improve system to system communication with a centralized data storage system. Method: The project method will involve literature review to develop theoretical base, data interpretation through case studies. At this stage, there is no experimentation involved within the scope of the project. Strategies and Resources: The resources will involve case studies of certain enterprise level businesses, company reports containing information about the company structure, how their systems and processes have been set up and then the need for a better integrated system will be analysed. The scope of the research on companies’ systems will be on a higher level to understand the need of systems integration within organisations. Other resources will involve previous research articles, journal articles and text books relating to the topic.
