We are experienced HDD (horizontal directional drilling) contractors for pipeline, but we have an opportunity to do HDD for a heavy cable (specs/details attached). The client/owners concern is that the cable should not have any stress (in other words pullback should not exceed maximum pulling tension).
I know HDD for cable is very common through use of casing/conduit pipes, and this project is for someone who is familiar with how to do it and suggestions. WE have HDD rigs of various sizes, so the equipment and team is not an issue but knowing how its done and to prepare a document for the client to give us a go ahead is the need of the hour.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

I have been suggested that the way to do this is to first pull a HDPE pipe of larger diameter (than cable) first and then pull the cable through it. The HDPE pipe will have smooth powder or coating or a lubricant can be put so the cable pulling has least friction during pullback.
Irrespective, this is just a suggestion - I would like a full document with calculations of pullback stress, etc. on the cable.
