Hi there. I am looking for a few girls to write about their true struggle with weight, self image, esteem, extreme diets, and eating disorders.
I want to make a collection of gritty, shocking, emotional, but most of all real stories of what women go through in the name of "skinny."
I am looking for two things.
First, girls who have gone through a real struggle.
Second, girls who can relate that struggle in a compelling way that people will want to read.
Discussion of "difficult" topics is definitely encouraged. I have no guidelines as far stories having some kind of sickly-sweet moralistic ending. The point of this project is to create a collection of real experiences.
If you have previous work on this topic, from journals or other sources, and are willing to give over the rights and erase the content from the web, that is definitely fine. However, all entries must be in a narrative form appropriate to a book.
The collection will be called "Thinspired" if you'd like to look for it after it comes out. I will probably give pseudonyms to the authors. These stories will not be passed off as mine, but as a collection.
Types of Writing Allowed:
- "snapshots" of a day in the life, or a poignant scene. (500 word minimum)
- Journal style stories from the start to the end of a diet
- "how it began" stories
- collections of touching or traumatic events, giving insight into the mind of the modern woman
In general, I would say the minimum length is 500 words, maximum is 20 pages.
I do not dictate length or amount of time put in, so I also do not dictate a price. Just keep in mind a general guideline of less for previous work that will simply be handed over, more for longer works. I will require a sample or excerpt (about 1/4th of the work), as well as a word count before I accept a bid.
I encourage private messages to explain your specific piece, its topic, and length.
