We're a London based group of designers, historians and consultants who want a prototype (history) timeline creation web app. Most of us are more at ease with print and classrooms; this is our first foray into creating online / web products and our first job on elance.
In testing, the web app is for private use, but will invite users after testing
Our ideal is a web app that works from any browser, on desktop, tablet or mobile, coded in pure HTML5. It is our understanding that HTML5 makes more sense to work with for cross-browser support today and will be used more and more across the internet / apps in the next few years. Also, with HTML5 we can write a minimal web version, then apply to dedicated apps later.
We are aware of cross-browser limits of HTML5. If, while reviewing the full brief, you think another language is more appropriate or you see another way to aid file size, performance, loading or the project in general etc. please say so.
The most important and common editing features:
add / edit images & text
calendar & timer functions
adjust image / text colours
adjust image / text opacity
resize image / text
move image / text
save image / text
add html to fixed size areas
apply select graphics to layers
Side menus: Users may edit approx 12-15 collapsible menus.
Export to oversize PDF
We require the app to export to a high resolution print ready PDF with crop marks and other print info. This PDF has oversize dimensions w:h approx 7:1
Export to HTML
We require the app to export projects to HTML code to add to other web pages.
There are, of course, several other features which will be explained in the full brief.
Pros: The entire project is on paper right now. Every aspect is clear in logic. It has taken us many weeks to decide on our core concepts, features and scalability - we are ready to clarify if you have questions.
This project can be cleared in milestones; not every feature we have in mind is necessary for our prototype. It may well be that we decide to have more or less than what appears in the full brief.
Cons: There is a way of creating and displaying our calendars which deviates from normal online calendars, but have been advised that it will be simple to implement
The oversize dimensions may be a hurdle for file sizes and loading.
Many features have similarities to those in existing web apps and services, but it has never been implemented in this combination.
