This business simulation places students in the shoes of a marketing manager trying to build viewership for a new television network dedicated to fashion programming. There are two competing networks and four viewer segments in the market, the actions of which are controlled by the simulation. The primary goal of the case is for students to gain an understanding of diffusion theory as the model that explains the spread of a new innovation, first to innovators and then through them to a mainstream market of adopters. The project needs to be implemented as a web-based application built from re-usable components, so more such business simulations can be built with increasing productivity as the endeavor moves into later stages (not part of this project). The application needs a user interface, a mathematical-model-based simulation engine and an interface to a database such as MySql to save the simulation's current state for each user. The preferred language of implementation is Java or C#. See the attachment for more details. Applicants should use the word "Simulate" as their first word in their response.
