Linux Application

This application will run on a linux unit with a web server installed (if required). The machine will be on a network with data sent to it. (remote machines will simply need the IP address of the machine)

The application will run in one of two modes.

(i) Screensaver Mode (an existing open source screensaver can be used)
(ii) Till Mode

Screensaver Mode - Records will be sent to the host machine at periodic intervals.(RSS Feed or FTP) Each record will consist of one or more images and a number of distinct text fields. The machine must display these on the video output of the host machine. Ideally there would be a number of options for specifying things such as transitions and layout.

Till Mode will be used for displaying sales details in a retail environment.

There will be two modes, Pole Display and Video.

(i) Pole Display - this will be used with industry standard Pole Displays (customer display units) connected via Serial or USB. (there will be an option to set this within the application)

An idle message will be displayed when the unit is not in use (sent from a remote pc)
As each item is added to the sale, the details of the item and the price will be sent (as text)

When payment is made, the total will be displayed
When payment method is selected, the payment method will be displayed
Wen payment is completed a default message will be displayed for a set number of seconds before the unit reverts to the idle message.

(ii) Video Mode will use the video output (like a screensaver)

An idle message will be displayed when the unit is not in use.

When a sale is made, each item is added to the sale the details will be displayed on the unit - laid out in the style of an invoice including the total.

Once payment has been made, the system will return to the idle message.
