To market a product or service in a foreign country poses many challenges to global marketers. This Activity requires an analysis of two country environments: Japan and Brazil, to assess the market opportunity and identify consumer needs and preferences of two specific products. The success of the marketing plan will be based on your ability to demonstrate an understanding of the differences in the market that must be addressed in the marketing strategy for each country’s market.
Read and analyze in-depth information on cultural differences and their impact on global marketing. Review a cultural anthropologist of your choosing, and critically evaluate how different cultures view time and space.
Select two United States brands —one personal (consumer-product based like Avon door-to-door sales) and another (durable–product based like carpet cleaning) service. Evaluate cultural variables (time, space, concept of self, or others) as they relate to marketing those brands. Assess and predict how your target markets might perceive these offerings in the countries of Japan and Brazil – what adjustments might you have to make to ‘globalize’ these offerings?
