The final database will contain about 20,000 photographs and will not require further entries. The names are what English officials have determined to be the sound as they heard it, so there will be many spelling mistakes...it doesn't matter. If you read the second yola page with the heading Chinese you will see what information will be in the database.
I need someone to create the database so that a person researching it can say "How many Chinese were hawkers in Brisbane between 1902 and 1920 and in what suburbs were their market gardens?" for example.
To ensure that inquirers are genuine, I need to get personal details off them and also limit the number of searches they can make online. I also need software developed that will allow genuine academic researchers to download one copy of the database which will not be able to be copied and which will be able to be used for a limited time only.
Finally software has to developed that will translate the regional Chinese dialect into its possible English sounds. This is essential to the project.
