The system will be required to measure antenna radiation patterns in a simpler and quicker way.
As with any antenna radiation measurement system, the system will consist of two antennas, the antenna to be tested, and a reference antenna. The reference antenna will be attached to a rotator arm, which the user will be able to through a laptop. The user will be able to change the values manually on the HMI interface, or using the mouse for smaller changes.
The user will first enter the start frequency, end frequency, and then will be able to change the elevation angle, azimuth angle, or both. The user will also be able to perform an elevation cut which is a full azimuth measurement (360°) at a fixed elevation angle, or an azimuth cut which is a full elevation measurement (180°) at a fixed azimuth angle.
The two antennas will be connected to a network analyzer, which will measure the radiation patterns of the test antenna as the elevation and azimuth angles of the reference antenna are changed.
So far, we have the code that will communicate with and control the rotator arm. That part of the project is complete. Our code is also supposed to be able to establish a connection with the network analyzer. However, we are getting an error with the National Instruments library, saying the library could not be found. This is probably easily solvable by compiling a library compatible with our code.
We also need the code to retrieve data points from the network analyzer and send them to an excel file. The network analyzers we are working with are an HP 8753 or HP 8720.
Details can be discussed further once the project is accepted.
