Educational Bio-lab Techniques Software:
The goal is for students (HS to early College) to learn how to do 3 types of Biology-based laboratory experiments in an interactive game environment via an educational CD-Software package designed for PC or Mac. A 3-D based game-like atmosphere could be included, if possible, to assist in helping the student relate to the learning experience, since it would be similar to current first-person 3-D games on the market, such as Resident Evil, Silent Hill, etc., without that level of complex programming. The use of 3-D game design software to build this education tool is acceptable, but not required.
Students will learn how to take material samples, test for acidity and pollutants, relate this information to the model environment (fictional environmental clean-up site), and come to a concise conclusion with the data they have attained, all on the computer. Each lab-module will relate to a classroom assigned lab, so the students can apply what they have learned. Curser/ mouse actions such as walking your character to a section of the test site, moving a litmus strip to a beaker and drawing a circle to collect a variant sample volume of earth are needed for greater interactivity.
Each lab-module exercise should take the student no more than 10-20 minutes to complete, including reading informational text blocks and watching video clips of interviews. Thus, the student should take no more than 30-60 minutes to complete all 3 lab-modules.
Options to change the data must be made available for the software’s back-end database, via installable updates or an extensive reservoir of sample options already within it, so that students can have new samples and new data to work with each time they open it.
Graphics creation and design will be required of the developer, in order to create an attractive stimulating educational environment.
The developer will be provided the following: plot and storyline of fictional clean-up site, example sample amounts and lab results, flowcharts detailing laboratory methods, ER diagrams directing the motion of the software and some graphics, as well as video footage of interviews from local state officials for informational pop-ups.
Estimates for man-hours and per-hour rate will be required in bid reply.
1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in CD executable format as well as complete source code of all work done.
2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows:
a) A software installation CD package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request.
b) A complete CD copy of all back-end materials and coding involved, including graphics and video, as a full disclosure and release of "work made for hire" provided.
3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement).
