Create Blackberry chat client application and server-side registration/hosting

We're looking to develop a J2ME chat client application that will work on RIM Blackberry mobile handhelds (possibly other phones that use J2ME). In conjunction with this client, a server side application will be needed to register users and perform the task of sending/receiving messages between users.

We are looking for a solution that looks/feels very similar to:

Blackberry Messenger

Experience in J2ME programming is required for this project. Please PM me your experience on programming mobile applications (chat clients preferred). We're open to suggestions and ideas for this project.
