The first problem with the existing systems is that they loose information when the power is switched off. Any permanent changes that need to be made to the data must be done by a specialist team of programmers who must edit and recompile the programs. The first requirement of the software is therefore to be able to save (and subsequently load) changes to the data, without the need for a programmer to be involved. This will involve using files. Sample data files have been supplied, but will need enhancing to fully test the system. A secondary and less important requirement relates to the user interfaces provided. The existing systems are old, based on monochrome text-based terminals and resources have now become available to upgrade all information points to use high specification PCs. It is thought that the systems will be more appealing to users (and be used more effectively) if they were to employ graphical user interfaces. Suitable interfaces must therefore be designed and implemented. Task as a programmer is to work on the system to bring it up to the new specification. Tasks You will receive a zip file. The zip file will contain a bluej project containing the existing system, a data file and word documents containing a brief description of the system and a template for your report. Your first task is to implement and document the persistence requirement. Only when this is completed fully may you proceed to the other enhancement.
