Project Description:
We need to develop a point of sale application for use in a small retail store. The front-end must be browser-based. For the back-end, we wish to use an open-source eCommerce solution. The purpose of this project is to determine if we can find an open-source eCommerce application to sell our products online that has an API that would allow us to create an HTML point-of-sale application so we could use a tablet (iPad or Android) in our store to handle retail sales and have the same back-end record both our online and retail sales. For this project, we want a working solution that will demonstrate the basic functionality (ability to sell product, check inventory, etc), but it does not need to have all the functionality of a complete solution (customer receivables, multi-terminal, etc.) This is intended to be a working prototype that would allow our client to decide whether to proceed with a full solution. We have identified some open-source eCommerce applications we believe may work, but are open to your suggestions. If the project is successful, we intend to move forward with additional development into a full point of sale solution and expect to have a continuing relationship with the selected freelancer.
