Optimize my chat script by converting it to use node.js

I currently have a chat script that's in credibly buggy, slow updating, and has horrible load on the server when there's a lot of traffic. I recently purchased a VPS and want to finally optimize the script to work with node.js to run more efficiently.
The site is similar to that of omegle, but instead of random chat, users select whether to chat as a user "A" or user "B" and "A's" gets paired up with "B's"
I also need the chat to be able to pull logged in user data from a wordpress/buddypress login, and to display that to chatting partner.
Please quote me based on optimizing the chat first, then what it would cost to integrate some information with wordpress.
