We are looking to make some changes to our existing website which is at www.trilogycomms.com.
This entails splitting the existing markets into "Americas" and "Global" by producing a new global site. We will do the bulk of the work but we want some design work with the decision making page.
This involves a javascript overlay page and the use of cookies to remember the choices made.
## Deliverables
Our current arrangement of sites will be found at [login to view URL] where you will find our current "corporate splitter" page. If you visit this page you will see two "choice" buttons labelled
Broadcast and Network-Centric which then link to our current two divisional sites.
In our new plan, the Network-Centric division will have two sites: Americas and EMEA/APAC.
**NC2** - User clicks on the existing NC2 button and the PC checks for the existence of a cookie (to be created as part of this project)
I. If cookie not present, a java overlay will appear.
? The user chooses Americas or EMEA/APAC site and is also presented with a checkbox saying "remember this choice every time for me". That is, make the setting persistent by creating a cookie.
II. If present, the browser reads the cookie
? The user then jumps seamlessly to his previously saved choice
The jave overlay will be a small dialogue box (say 300 x 200 pixels tba) and should cause the main page to "go dark". This is a technique we already use on our site with pictures & images. Take a look at our site and try enlarging a picture. It's also used by e-bay.
Additionally a globe icon will be added in the top right corner of the header (standard globe for EMEA/APAC and stars and stripes globe for the Americas). This reflects the current site (EMEA/APAC or US) with an appropriate icon. Clicking the icon re-displays the java overlay (as above) allowing the alternate site to be viewed.
This new globe icon for the appropriate site will be visible throughout both the existing Americas site and the new EMEA/APAC site (reminder: site design will be done by ourselves). The sites make use of "includes" such as [login to view URL] & [login to view URL] - we envisage the globe etc forming part of the header or footer (tba).
As described above, clicking the globe will cause the jave overlay to re-display. The resultant action is slightly different, depending from where it was launched.
* If launched from the corporate splitter page then both choices are equal and a visitor will go to the regional homepage he has chosen.
* If launched from a page within (e.g.) the Americas site, the visitor will still be presented with the same 2 choices (Americas and EMEA/APAC. If he chooses Americas, that means no change, and the java overlay should simply be dismissed.
* Likewise, if the selection overlay is launched from the EMEA/APAC site.
We have a testing site which I can give you full access to.
We can supply the globe icons.
