Project Description:
Project Summary
My client wishes to convert a paper driven works order system into an easy to use electronic system.

I have recommended that they develop a basic web application in PHP and MySQL to allow them maximum flexibility in terms of hardware platforms (i.e. they can use PC or a tablet).

I intend to run the application on Apache with Linux to give the client flexibility to host the application locally in their office or remotely on rented hosting.

The system will be used to generate these four printed reports:
1. Works Order Form
2. Job Tickets
3. Test Certificates
4. Purchase Orders

a. Works Order Form
Creating the works order form will require data to be selected from these tables:
a1. customers
a2. usernames
a3. products
a4. raw materials
a5. suppliers
a6. purchase orders
a7. cast numbers
a8. test certificate numbers

b. Job Tickets
Job tickets are created from works orders.
Each product line on the works order form generates a separate job ticket.
Most of the data is drawn from the works order form.
Each line on the Job Ticket includes a bill of materials which is drawn from a table of raw materials.

c. Test Certificates
Test certificates are created from works orders.
Most of the data is drawn from the works order form.
Each line on the Test Certificate includes data about the Casting which is drawn from a table of Casting data.

d. Purchase Order Form
Creating the purcahse order form will require data to be selected from these tables:
d1. suppliers
d2. usernames
d3. products

System Specification
This is only an outline specification. Additional material will be made available that gives examples of all the existing forms, process maps, lists of data fields for the forms and some simple ideas for the on-screen view.

The system must allow the client to create a Works Order Form with a minimum amount of typing.

Where possible all fields will be completed by selecting stored data from lists. Drop down selection boxes are ok but type in selection fields (like google instant) would be better.

Where possible the system will automatically populate fields with related data.

This system will replace an existing process managed with MS Excel to create Test Certificates. The new system must be capable of importing data from the old system but only as a one off event.

Works Orders, Purchase Orders, Job Tickets and Test Certificates must all be generated as PDF documents that can be saved locally and must include the option to print to a user specified printer.

Access to the system must be secured using a simple username and password system.
