Hi, In our company we are using several nagios plugins to collect data from remote servers using WMI. Those plugins receive an username and password as parameters, however the password is kept in plain text in one of the nagios config files, [login to view URL] Though is not really very secure, we feel more comfortable hiding the plain password. What we want to have done is: 1) Have developed a function to crypt and decrypt the wmi password. We would like to have the crypt function both as a perl script and as a php function 2) Replace the wmi password with the crypted one in [login to view URL] 3) Add the decrypt function to the nagios wmi plugin (perl script) 4) Obfuscate the perl script to hide the decrypt functions, for instance using [login to view URL] Thanks in advance

Hello, Perl and PHP have functions to encrypt passwords usign a DES algorithm. There is no decryption. The idea is to create an encryption that is hard to decrypt (takes significant computing resources). When an encrypted password is stored, authentication occurs if the password submitted matches the encrypted value. However, it is impossible to recover any password stored in encrypted form. If a password must be reset, a new password must be generated. I will write functions in Perl and PHP to encrypt a password. No decryption shall be offered. Because the encryption algorithm is within the libraries these is no requirement to obfuscate any code.
