I've a requirement from a customer in which i need to develop a Microsoft Radius server IAS plugin or extension to provide a additional and 2nd authentication method linked to an external SQL database (1st method is username+password logon). When Radius receives a logon request from a user that 'needs' this 2nd additional authentication method, the plugin will connect to the external SQL database (3 types possible, MySQL, Oracle and MSSQL), and then insert a record with a field containing a random number (we'll use SQL random function), and another field with the user's mobile number(retrieved from active directory). The random number will then be pickup by an external shortmessage application and then sent to the user's cellphone. The user will then enter the random number into Radius, and if it matches what the plugin recorded, the user will be permitted access to the system. There will be a timeout period for the user to enter this password, e.g. 10 minutes, after which another random number has to be generated. Each user can only try up to X times before the account is 'suspended'. There's a discussion on a somewhat similiar project here - [login to view URL]
