A new website for London Play
London Play’s existing website www.londonplay.org.uk uses a bespoke content
management system which is supported by an external provider who charges a
sizeable monthly fee for hosting, support and maintenance. We deal with most of the
uploading of material to the site ourselves, however the external provider maintains
control over some aspects of the site, in particular the home page, which incur
further cost to alter.
Although the site functions reasonably well and is fairly easy to navigate, it lacks the
dynamism of many modern websites, is not very flexible and does not invite
interaction with users. We want a new site which better serves our changing
audience, is low cost to run and maintain, is dynamic, flexible and which is widely
We envisage that the new website will be developed using an open source content
management system such as Wordpress, Drupal or Joomla; however we are open to
advice on which of those systems best suits our needs. This website brief is issued in
tandem with a brief for a new database/customer relationship management system
for London Play which prospective developers should also read. The new website
(and database) should be live by the end of March 2013 although we are realistic
that this timescale is unlikely to allow all material to be uploaded to the new site by
then and this will be the beginning of an ongoing process.
See attached brief for a full description of the project scope. We would like bids
submitted as soon as possible, by Tuesday 19 February as our timescale is very tight.
