The project consists in the development of an experimental platform that I will use in the context of my PhD dissertation. I would like to test how different design versions of an online social shopping platform (e.g., Kaboodle, ThisNext, Yelp, Foursquare...) influence users' behaviours and perceptions.
Hence, I am asking for the delivery of a website where users can create their profile, connect with others, and connect and interact with products. In my case, the products will be restaurants or places to go out in Vancouver (Canada).
At the moment, I can see the website to have the following key page templates
o Home page
o Product page
o Shopper profile page
and I can see the following key functions:
o shopper connectivity: e.g., being able to become a friend or follow other shoppers
o product connectivity: e.g., being able to add product to one’s profile (i.e., such as the Kaboodle button) from yellowpages.ca or google maps places pages, or to like a product
o product interactivity: e.g, being able to review a product
o shopper interactivity: e.g, being able to write on other shoppers' wall in order to comment on their activities
o network navigation: e.g., being able to access other shoppers profiles, to browse from products to people, from people to products
(1) Participants to my experiment will go through the following process
o Step 1 – Read the study description and sign the Ethics agreement
o Step 2 – Provide their Attitude towards common things or leisure
Types of cuisine: sushis, chineese, french, north American, south American..
Type of leisure: music, visual art, outdoor activities, social..
o Step 3 – Create their user profile: filling a form (avatar, gender, name, section#, types of products interested in, etc)
o Step 4 – Add ‘places’ to their profile
By going to yellowpages.ca and selecting a ‘place’ that you have liked Review ‘place’
Do 4 times
o Step 5 – Connect with others
Calculate and show the result of a first similarity network (match according to type of cuisine, leisure, etc..in common)
Ask to browse and identify close friends and other people you know (confidential, not shown to others)
Add other people based on potential interest in following this person’s activities (confidential as well?)
o Step 6 – Conduct the experimental task (searching for a ‘place’ to go with friends)
(2) while the basic functions will remain similar, I would like that you deliver 4 different instances of this platform. Each instance will have a slight element of design different. These are not fully specified yet. However, the general idea is that I would like to manipulate the content provided in the network ‘feed’, a feed of information provided on each page to inform users about the activities occurring in the network. Basically, the participants to my experiment will be asked to search for a ‘place’ they would like to go within the network, and I would like to know whether providing different type of content in this feed will influence their behaviors and the outcomes they derive from using the platform.
(3) Rather than starting from scratch, I would prefer to leverage existing open source platforms such as elgg and add/develop pluggins when necessary. This should be discussed further with the freelancer during pre-project analysis.
(4) I need an administrator platform where I can track and export users’ individual an relational information
I need quick work on this project - deadline for delivering functioning prototype/platform on which we can make test: early January. I would like to work with quick iterations to make sure we are on the same page.
