-I already have a site up and running but was advised by an expert to update both the site and design. Site has front and back end. Below is the comment from my friend who does not have time to work on my site.
- I'd say the source code should be replaced by a modern MVC framework like Laravel or Symfony2. There's a lot of good reasons to use these and few good reasons not to. Right now the front-end HTML is mingling with the back-end PHP logic, which can make the site very difficult to modify and maintain. This would mean a complete reboot of your website's source code, but it would make the other changes in this list more feasible.
- The HTML is table-based; this went out of favor 10 years ago because it makes for very rigid, fragile layouts, it's hard to modify, it's big, and it obfuscates the site's content for search engine crawlers. As a developer, tables are very difficult to work with; if I wanted to go in and clean up your styles, change your logo or add anything, it would be a frustrating and time-consuming process. If I were involved I would completely rewrite the HTML so it relies on CSS (cascading stylesheets) -- not HTML -- for layout and styling.
-It needs to be optimized for mobile, as I imagine many of your clients will be accessing this on mobile devices. This isn't doable in the current state.
-Apparently the last person who created the site didn't optimize it for SEO either.
