change listing position,adding rental availability calender

my website is a vacation rental Joomla 1.7.0 website. I use joomanager as a component to list rental properties. I need to make two changes to this template.
1. Make the newly added item show up at the top of the list.
currently, when an item added from front end, it automatically goes to the end of the list, people usually have difficulty to find it. I want the newly added items shows up at the top on the first page like the way craigslist does. This would require some custom coding to edit the core component php file.
2. to add a availability calender in each vacation rental page.
something similar to calender on [url removed, login to view] dispalys 12-month availability schedule
