Inventory Project Web Application Specifications for Ecommerce website
Currently we get inventory reports from our vendors via email ( through a gmail account ) and via FTP transmissions. Reports come in different formats and structures. The formats include .csv, .xls, .xlsx, .txt mostly. There are approximately 200 suppliers that will need to be mapped.
The application will gather this data from email attachments and FTP locations, then normalize this data in a central database. There will also be other databases involved, like our central product database and a vendor database.
The database will be used to transmit inventory to our multiple websites via the Yahoo Catalog Manager API. It will also be used to compare against our master product database to create various reports like “available to sell but not on the websites”, "on the websites but not in the database" and other reports. The normalized database will need to be able to be queried, so we can get vendor reports and other reports.
The data set itself is fairly simple. In will consist of only a few items. These being Manufacturer, Manufacturer part Number, in stock (yes / no), back order date, quantity in stock, discontinued (yes/no), there may be mapping logic surrounding this data. The Manufacturer Part number will be the KEY for the database.
We have a spreadsheet with most of the vendors organized with data delivery methods and some basic mapping.
The main interface will be a website that we can log into. As data and it's structure can change, we will need the ability to change mappings. So if a vendor shifts columns, we can re-map the data set.
We have a test environment setup and will provide hosting for a development environment.
