Project Description:
I am seeking to create a niche product review site. Some of the requirements of this site include:
• CMS to post editor reviews of products
• Ability for site visitors to post reviews
• Ability to categorize products into categories and subcategories
• Ability to categorize products by brands (labels/tags are ok)
• Ability to organize content by top-rated in category or subcategory
• Ability of editor reviews to appear featured (i.e. above user reviews)
• Ability to manage affiliate links
• Ability to put AdSense or directly sold ads in right rail (I'm ok with managing HTML/CSS from a CMS for this)
• Fully custom Wordpress theme/design
• Nice to have: Ability to export reviews/data (CSV? MySQL database? How does this work?) if I ever switch to another platform
• Nice to have: ability to review products based on different criteria (for example, price, quality, appearance, etc.)
• Nice to have: plugin support (if using plugin)
• Nice to have: ability to have custom “star” rating system. (I want to use a custom designed icon instead of stars)
I have looked at several Wordpress plugins which may be able to accommodate such a site, such as MyReveiwPlugin and WP Review Engine. Both look like possible contenders, except that I have seen recently online that support is no longer responding to users and I have not had a response from their Help Desks when I have inquired. Not sure if they are continuing to support product. I am open to other plugins, platforms, coding languages, or technologies other than Wordpress or these specific plugins, as long as they fulfill my requirements above. That being said, I am budget-conscious, so something out of the box that could be customized is probably a better alternative than building something from scratch.
I have attached some initial wireframes. These are up for discussion if anything is particular challenging or does not fit well with a current template/plugin. I will provide fully baked PSD designs before you start.
