In regards to the photo processing job, here are some details:
This project involves removing the background from 300 JPG files. All photos are of People shot over a blue background and gray floor. The blue is not a perfect evenly lit blue screen but is pretty nice in most pictures. The upmost care should be taken to preserve all details including the subjects hair. I would highly recommend the use of Fluid Mask 3 or a similar add on product for photoshop. Attached is a sample file typical of the project.
I will be sending the raw files as RGB JPGs straight from the camera. They will need to come back as RGB Photoshop PSD files with transparent backgrounds in the native resolution, they should not be resized in any way.
When removing the backgrounds with any type of color selection tool, please be aware of any photos where the subject is wearing blue, i.e. Blue Belt, Blue Eyes, or Blue T-Shirt under their uniform is not also removed. Historically, Hair and Feet are notorious as problem areas; please pay special attention to these areas.
Probably the most difficult portion of the procedure is the hair. Especially curly, frizzy or long blond hair. This can be especially challenging when they are in movement and their hair is flying and separating into strands. Every last hair does not need to be saved, but again the final result should look natural and undetectable. Like I said earlier, something like Fluid Mask 3 would aide in this task. The finished cutout will be placed over a new background when returned so it is also imperative that there is not a huge amount of transparency in the hair where it will look like the subjects head is missing.
Most of the photos will contain white uniforms, since the subjects are standing on a blue matt there will be a certain amount of blue reflected light on their uniform in the shadow areas. This will need to be removed as it will look strange when the cutout is placed on a new background. I have found the best way to combat this is with a feathered selection area around these areas and then to desaturate that area. The fix should be undetectable when complete. Make sure when desaturating that if there is skin tone or color in the uniform that those colors do not also get desaturated.
Another area that needs to be addressed are Kama Blades (Bladed Weapons). These will typically reflect allot of blue and will need to be desaturated back to a solid silver.
People who have acne or other skin blemishes can benefit from the healing brush tool. Typically the spot healing brush works very well. Again, this should be undetectable when complete and look very natural.
The final image should not display any jagged edges around the cutout. This can usually be acheived by a feather of 1 or 2 pixels around the selection before deleting the background or by the use of add on software.
All files should be transferred back and forth via FTP. If you have an FTP site I will need the login information for uploading as well as downloading the completed files.
