We require a simple, mechanical edit on a novel. We are not a self-publisher but an independent publisher looking for someone with proofreading experience to provide a 'second look' at a book that has already been professionally edited by one of our junior editors. Anyone who has read the earlier UK editions of Kate Mosse's 'Sepulchre' will know that even a large publishing house (Orion) can let major errors slip by.
We are not a large publishing house. We are an independent publisher, so we will be looking for very competitive bids and a quick turnaround.
Again, this is a purely mechanical edit. You will just need to look for grammar and spelling errors. We do not want any re-writing nor do we require a ghost-writer. Feedback will not be welcomed on this book. This is a simple editing job.
The book is about 85,000 words.
We will require you to use Word Track Changes.
We are looking for a native English speaker, particularly someone in the US as this is a US English book, but other countries will also be considered.
You will need to sign a legally binding confidentiality agreement.
We believe in fair wages but this job is quite straightforward. A university student could handle it. Therefore, we are looking for highly competitive bids. The lower your bid, the more likely you will be awarded this project. That said, experience counts. The lowest bid will not necessarily win, so provide us with as much information as you can regarding your expertise.
We have a handful of titles coming out this year. If we like your work and your price, we will hire you again.
Thank you for your interest,
