Project Description:
I need a PYTHON script for an Embedded LINUX platform like the Raspberry Pi to turn it into a GPS Tracker and send the data into a GPSgate server. The software will need to upload GPS data, storing it when the Ethernet is not available. The protocol for GPSgate should be chosen so that it does not use too much bandwidth. The GPS would be either Serial or Serial over USB. The code should be able to cope being restarted without losing all the GPS positions, but losing up to a minute would be OK.

The ability to configure the key parameters of the unit is essential, such as GPSgate server, frequency of position reports to upload, how many to save if the Ethernet is offline, etc. Configuring through a web interface would be great, but might be overkill.

Eventually, we will want functionality to only transmit when an external input is on, or maybe turn outputs on and off.

Any additional functionality you could propose might be interesting to us.
