The purpose of this attached VBScript is to get a list of the installed MS updates on a system and the count of the updates. The result will be represented in a nice html format.
If you open the script in notepad ++:
1- In line 17 you would specifiy the hostname or the computer to run.
2- In line 32 to specify where you want the output of the html file to be saved (set fileOutput = [login to view URL]("C:\Users\DevAdmin\Desktop\Scripts)
Now, I would like this script to be written to do the following:
1- Have the script read an input txt file (it can be located on a local system or on a remote server) that has three lines:
a. Release = (1234) --> this will be printed on the HTML
b. List Of Servers = (server1, server2, server3) .. list of host names or ip addresses .. so you can run it on more than one system and specify those in the file and the script will then execute instead of running the script manually on each server
c. Output = (\\remote_server OR C:\ .. for example) the output of where the html result file will be saved for each system the script will run on.
Once this script is designed and working properly in VBScript. I would like this script with the same design and functions to be written in Python Script.
Hi. I suggest instead of a text file to use xml file. For the Python solution you'll need, except for the python to download and install additional modules for get information about Win updates. In both cases, when requesting information from a remote computer, you must have the appropriate rights.
