In the rendering industry, by-products from the meat processing industry are collected and rendered to produce high-quality proteins. Feathers, one of these by-products, are collected to be processed and transformed into highly desirable product known as Feather Meal. The latter, is returned back on the market as ingredient for agriculture and animal nutrition.
Feather meal absorption is at approximately 50% today i.e. 50% of the feather protein meal quantity fed is absorbed/digested by the animal; the other 50% is obviously eliminated.
The mandate for this research project is to obtain insights on currently developed methods, processes and technologies (other?) that increases the feather meal absorption percentage from 50% to over 90%.
