One of the major themes running throughout this unit is the importance of continuous professional development that enables students to excel in their academic study and enhance their employability prospects at the end of the program. This assignment involves a review of the PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN PROCESS and its relevance for students during their time at university and thereafter as working professionals. The report MUST HAVE 3 ELEMENTS:
Section 1: The importance of Professional Development Planning (500 words)
-relates to the importance and relevance of PDP or skill building.
-please address question- TO WHAT EXTENT IS PDP IMPORTANT FOR CONTINUING PERSONAL, ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT/EMPLOYABLILITY.
-use academic literature to support ideas and arguments.
Section 2: Critical Reflection (approximately 1000 words). The second element is a Critical Reflection that provides an evaluation of your progress on your personal and professional development over the course of the last year at university including both positive and negative experiences. Students who developed a PDP for the initial assignment should use that to reflect upon strengths and weaknesses.
Section 3: Long Term Plan of Action (approximately 500 words). . The third and final element of the report should conclude with a Long-term Plan of Action that sets out three future developmental goals. Students should use appropriate diagnostics to establish goals and apply SMART (available on Moodle) to reflect on future goals.
Assessment criteria require students to demonstrate ability to:
" Provide a review of the literature in terms of the extent to which PDP is important for personal and professional development.
" Use academic literature to support key arguments and ideas (at least 4-8 different academic references)
" Evaluate progress on personal and professional development including positive and negative experiences (based on initial attempt at PDP assignment or in general if PDP has not been submitted previously)
" Critically reflect on the five stages of professional development, which are diagnosis, goal setting, action planning, development and review.
" Establish three longer-term developmental goals indicating an appropriate timeframe and the resources required to achieve them including diagnostics and the application of the SMART acronym
" Diagnostics could include but are not restricted to: Johari window, SWOT.and self-diagnostic questionnaire (all on Moodle)
" Reference in-text appropriately and provide a full list of references on a reference page at the end of the assignment that conforms to the Harvard approach.
" Provide written work that has a coherent and logical structure.
" Length of the assignment is 1500-2000 words (+/- 10%) (excluding Reference list/ Bibliography and Appendices)
