I have 50,000 songs on a Windows PC computer
with a lot of large multi-TB hard drives. The
songs are Windows WAVE files with a six or
eight digit number as the file name.
The songs are in different folders
with a 2 digit number for the folder name.
The folder names will always be the same as the
first two digits of the file names that are in it. For
example, a song file 1232456 would be in the
folder 12. Song 999999 would be in folder 99.
I will give you an ASCII setup file or similar showing
the folder names and the drive letter
they are on. That would be in an external file so
I could change it in the future as new categories
and folders and hard drives get added. That
can be in any format you specify, generated as
ASCII text with notepad or any format that can be
outputted from Excel.
Then I attach a new hard drive to that computer,
probably via USB, and tell your new software what
drive letter it goes in and what folder to use.
Lastly, I give you an ASCII order file with
the file names that I want your software to copy to
the new hard drive.
The software should be chatty.
In other words, have a screen that lists the files
as it copies them. If a song is on the order list but
can't be found, a line would say
Song 123456 not copied.
It should date and time started and ended.
Info on the screen should be written to an ASCII
file named song_order_date_start_time.txt.
