Project Description:

I would like you or your team to bid on creating a social networking e-portfolio site for teachers.

** I do not want a standard social network site. Please read the listing carefully **

The website should allow Teachers & Assessors to create an account. (after paying)

Teachers will maintain/update an electronic portfolio and also socialise with others on the website.

The e-portfolio will allow Teachers to showcase themselves to

1) An Assessor(s) (selected from one of the assessor accounts)
2) Social friends (chosen from other teacher accounts on the site) &
3) A prospective employer

The Teacher should be able to decide who can see various areas of their eportfolio.

Key areas of the e-portfolio are as follows:

1) Standards Area:

This is where all the teacher standards should be presented.

(Teachers primarily need the site to evidence meeting standards.
To know more about standards and teachers read at the end of this listing.)


a) Next to each standard the teacher should be able to link a file(s) and add a comment on why they placed that file as evidence of meeting that standard.

b) Teachers should be able to choose which set of standards they are working towards. (There are five in total)

b) There should be a fuction to allow all standards along with the linked evidence + comments to be downloaded in one zip file.

2) File area:

This is where teachers will be able to store/upload files

a) In the file area the teachers should be able to:
• Create folders and sub folders structures
• Upload multiple files quickly and efficiently
• Give each file a Name and Description
• Manage their file allocation Quota
• When uploading a file users must agree to a Copyright disclaimer.
• The folders should have rights access set by teacher
• The e-portfolio system should allow the teachers to increase their hosting space by paying an extra monthly payment.
• The teachers should know how much space they have used and how much they have left. (Perhaps a meter)

Main Admin: The admin should be able to limit the types of files and/or file sizes that can be included into teacher eportfolios.

3) Personal Learning Targets area.

a) Teachers should be able to create learning Targets and set specific time to meet the target
b) There should be an area for the teacher to upload evidence of meeting target
c) There should be an area where an assessor can login in and ‘tick' if the teacher has successfully completed the target. (This facility should only be accessible to assessors)
d) Assessors Name, e-mail, Position, etc should be recorded when the target is signed.


4) Certificates

A Qualified Teacher has three QTS Skills Tests certificates in Literacy, numeracy and ICT.

This area of the site will need to allow certificate details/files to be added and be able to be countersigned by an assessor.

5) Reflection

This is an area of the website that will allow teachers to write a personal reflection on a lesson or incident.

Each individual reflection should have a title and teachers should be able to link to them, as evidence, in the standards section.

(This may take the form of a diary i.e Reflective Diary/Journal)

6) Attendance

This area of the e-portfolio will allow the teacher to maintain their attendance record and comment on any absences. This needs to be viewed and countersigned by an assessor.

7) SOCIAL NETWORKING ABILITY

The e-portfolio systems should include features that allow teachers to send and receive messages, engage in chats and discussions, share information, create groups and collaborate with one another.

There should be a facility where users can create and maintain a list of Friends within the system. Teachers should be able to choose whether other teachers can add them to their Friends list automatically or by request & approval.

A Teacher's Friends lists shows only that which they have been assigned access to.

8) Personal profile

This area will show personal details. i.e. Teacher name, Photo, Address, Contact details, Current Post & Position, GTC number, Which Union they have joined etc

There will also be an area to upload a CV or fill an online CV with details of Education & Experience.

9) Personaliasation : not very important but useful.

Teachers should be able to personalise their e-portfolio and choose from a range of templates. Upload an avatar etc


10) Assessment

There should be an area where teachers can upload documents and allow them to be countersigned by an assessor. Teacher should be able to hide previous assessments from assessors.

11) Assessors need to create a seperate account to countersign teachers documents.

Assessors can choose who they want to assess but the Teacher must verify it before access is given.

12) Teachers should be able to generate a ticket for a assessor/employer to temporarily login and countersign/view their eportfolio.

The ticket will allow temporary access and have whatever view restrictions that the teacher decides.

13) A main admin account to overview the whole site with all the functions that admins do. ie block accounts, manage payments, statistics etc

Also not forgetting:

Security

• Session key handling code should be tightly integrated
• Provide database abstraction that prevents any database injection attacks and input validation that prevents script injection attacks.
• User authentication, ip address logging

General Comments:

The site needs to look very appealing and professional.

If you have expertise in this field, I expect you to put forward suggestions on how it should look. You may also know of features that would make the site better.

I would expect you to give me a few sample designs before I commit to any one particular look.

I will explain each feature in more detail, should you need it, to the project winner. Take a look at www.vois.co.uk if you do not know what an e-portfolio is.

Also, you should have good english speaking skills and be very fast in responding to e-mails.

I would like this built within one month and it will need to be bug fixed and tested before payment is handed over.

The site should be LIVE by August 20th.

You should be willing to support the site if things go wrong till January 20th 2010. (Just to iron out errors and bugs that's all)

Standards and Teachers

A Trainee Teacher needs to evidence QTS Standards. (takes 1 year)

A Newly Qualified Teacher needs to evidence Core standards (takes 1 Year)

After this period they are Professional Teachers. They can decide to move up in their career if they also show evidence of meeting:

i) Post Threshold Standards (after six years teaching)
ii) Excellent Teacher Standards
iii) Advanced Skills Teacher Standards
