I will not bore the reader with the many ways I damaged my relationship with my roommate after the first time I was exposed to the drink, but I would like to defend my own actions by iterating that, for what many would consider a girly cocktail, Sex on the Beach has caused me to end up defenseless and on my back more times than I would like to admit. When traveling abroad, it has become my own personal ritual to order Sex on the Beach in whatever country I find myself. As one might expect, having Sex on the Beach is a great way to learn about a country's culture and open-ness to foreign influence. However, where one always knows what to expect from Sex on the Beach in America - a reasonable amount of vodka, some peach schnapps and a concoction of orange/ cranberry/ pineapple juice - almost anything is fair game in Sex on the Beach abroad - particularly in Asia. In China, when I ordered what the menu offered as "The Sex in the Bach," I wished I had previously known the Chinese to tell the bartender to limit the amount of paint thinner or gasoline or MSG or whatever the vodka substitute was that he used. In a rural village in Guatemala, when I politely asked my waiter for "El Sexo en la Playa," he politely suggested that I try a more classy drink called "El Amor en el Lago," a suspiciously blue version of Sex on the Beach. His suggested "Love on the Lake" was so intense that I am certain it killed whatever bacteria had been upsetting my stomach since my previous sexual encounter on the nearby lake. In contrast to Asia's and Latin America's willingness to accept the influence of America, I think I single-handedly worsened the current conflicts with the Arab world when I politely asked a Moroccan waiter to provide me with Sex on the Beach. If their government ever lets me back in, I will be sure to start slow with "Huddling Together in the Sandstorm for Warmth" and work my way up from there to legitimate, good, old-fashioned Sex on the Beach. less

Outside is raining and cold, inside my mind i have my own piece of paradise, the waves are crashing in and out, the gentle breeze sweeps my hair, the zingy fruitiness off this drink stimulates my mind and my taste buds in equal measures, there is nothing else that compares to this paradise, there is no other drink that takes me away, nothing that revives my body and my imagination, nothing that can execute my thirst quite like it. It takes me back to my first kiss with my childhood sweetheart, it's like a tender hug from the one you love, a sunset at dawn, the piercing starlight on a clear night, christmas morning when your little, a fantastic dream you don't want to wake from, this drink is liken to a dreamlike fantasy, you just know your revitalised. Any other drink i have tasted, pales into insignificance by comparison. The taste is electric, the cobwebs are blown away, this drink takes me on a journey, away from reality on a trip to heaven. The Delights and Uses of Coca-Cola
People up North, Yankees if you will, just don’t understand and never will, the importance and flavor of the original Coca-Cola. I don’t mean the time of Coca-Cola’s debut in the market, or after the alleged cocaine was removed from the formula. I’m thinking of the 1950’s in South Georgia, reaching into the cooler at a gas station and pulling out a green glass bottle, so cold that you whip it up and press it to your flaming forehead and cheeks. Never has flavor and carbonation delivered such satisfaction to a parched throat. Now here’s the part that they never will get up North: Coca-Cola, first thing in the morning, is so much more invigorating than coffee. You’re tickled and sweetened and soon, zooming off to your day. Coca-Cola is also the best way to calm a queasy stomach if you start with a little flat Coke, then progress to a small room temperature Coke, and later on, a glass of cool Coca-Cola. There’s not a household in Georgia that doesn’t have Coca-Cola in the refrigerator for thirst, mornings, and/or a tonic.
