Case Study – SharpSolutions
SharpSolutions are a small software furnishing company based in Gateshead. The company has been established for 20 years and at present has 10 employees in total. The employees range from the Managing Director to designers working on the shop floor to administrative staff.
The company at present has a paper based payroll system and have decided to replace this system with a computer based system. Each employee is paid an hourly rate and works a standard 40 hour week. Any hours worked over the standard 40 hour week is classed as overtime and is paid at 1.5 times the standard hourly rate. Employees are identified by a unique employee number. National Insurance is deducted from the gross wage at a rate of 9% and income tax is paid at a rate of 25% on any earnings over £143.75 per week.
The company has requested a secure password controlled system that will accept employee details, weekly pay rate and the number of hours worked. From the information entered into the system, each individual employee’s gross pay must be calculated. The system must display a summary of each employee’s pay details and must also generate the employee’s payslip. There must be a facility to print this information from the system. Data generated for each employees payslip and the summary of all employees pay must be stored in separate external files and presented as a report to senior management.
