I need a small utility developing. It needs to run on Windows SBS2008 and read data from a SqlServer database (whichever version is installed by default with SBS2008). It needs to read a table of IDs/Names and for each one, create a shortcut (symbolic link) within a specific server folder, linking the name and ID. The shortcuts will be used by clients connecting to the server, running Windows 7 desktops.
E.g. if the d/b contains data
then it needs to create shortcuts in folder C:\Clients as follows:
\Fred pointing to C:\Clients\00100
\Bert pointing to C:\Clients\00102
\Mary pointing to C:\Clients\00103
The utility should also scan shortcuts for "missing" items and delete any missing ones (e.g. anything pointing to C:\Clients\00101 in the above example).
Don't care too much what this is written in, though my preference would be C# (as then I could read the source!). No user interface needed; just something that can be triggered periodically (windows scheduled task maybe?) and will get config info from an app.config file (d/b connection info, directory path info) and "just work".
Alternatively, if you know of any existing tool out there that will do exactly this, let me know!
Please indicate an outline of your proposed solution and development language.
To win this project you will need good communication skills, good written English, and ideally be contactable during UK office hours. You will be expected to provide support and bug fixes during and for a 3-month period following deployment of the software. Your project bid should reflect the above.
