Why teach at The Designation?
Meet The Designation. We believe that the future of entrepreneurship and technology is in the hands of designers, and we want to lead this beautiful revolution. We are a team of talented designers who have built a purely design-focused school in Chicago. For 12 intensive weeks, we’ll be teaching students in-person the fundamentals of front-end web development and graphic design. By the end of the course, we’ll have crafted them into master designers. We hope you’ll join us.
Skills and Qualifications:
You are eager to shape the skills, minds, and trajectories of the newest generation of Interaction Designers, Front-end Web Developers, and Graphic Designers
You have 3 of years of Front-End Web Development experience; or equivalence (i.e., portfolio) in creating compelling web application experiences that include web, graphic, and visual design
You have fluency in the following:
Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
Wireframing websites and mobile apps
You have a thorough understanding of the following:
user-centered design (UI/UX)
principle differences of native iOS vs Android app design
online and print visual designs, including typography, visual concepts, print and interactive platforms
Preferably held or holding a current position with a venture-backed startup
Preferably has had previous teaching experience (you don’t need to have taught before, but you should be resourceful enough to be able to get instructional resources for your students)
Not necessary, but preferably up-to-date with latest web technologies (SASS, LESS, CoffeeScript, etc.)
Responsibilities and Duties:
Collaborate with other instructors to define the curriculum
Teach two, 3-hour evening classes per week, for 9 weeks during the summer:
Work closely with 1-2 teaching assistants to provide students with meaningful and prompt feedback on their progress
Work alongside The Designation staff and teaching team to best meet the needs and learning styles of your students
Facilitate a collaborative and comfortable classroom community.
Guide students through the creation of a stellar final portfolio that showcases multiple design projects, which show their ability to transform ideas into interactive websites
Assist students outside of class as necessary
Play a key role in helping students level up or get hired for high impact jobs in the field
