Rancho Ecologico Monte Mojino (REMM) is a conservation project in the Sierra Madre mountains of Sonora, Mexico. This project is one of Nature and Culture International's (NCI) many conservation projects in Central and South America. The mission of REMM is to foster protection of the tropical deciduous forest (TDF) Rio Cuchujaqui watershed in southern Sonora. To achieve this mission, we apply scientific research and the knowledge of the local people to sustain this unique landscape in an ever-changing world. REMM encompasses a series of contiguous properties that contain some of the best extant examples of tropical dry forest in the Western Hemisphere, totaling approximately 23,000 acres.REMM is a bi-national conservation effort of two non-profit organizations: NCI in the USA and ConFFA (Conservacionistas de Flora y Fauna de Alamos) in Mexico.'Monte mojino' is a term used by people in the region who live in the campo. It is used as well by numerous botanists. Mojino describes the beautiful burnished red/ochre aspect of the TDF during the dry season. By naming the project Monte Mojino, the REMM staff most of whom are native to the area, believe we can sustain an important element of the language and culture in hte same way we are working to sustain the landscape.
REMM needs a logo and we envision a pen and ink type drawing of plants and landscape native to the area, incorporating the words Rancho Ecologico Monte Mojino. Attached are two examples of ideas. One is the simple line drawing and the other is the banner we've been using, but would like to have a free standing logo...perhaps one that can be incorporated into the banner, on one side. We are open to all ideas.
