I am looking for someone to create a brand identity for a start-up publisher of photography books. Nothing exists at present other than the name ZDTravis Books and our first two titles so this is a "start from scratch" project. I have compiled the following somewhat random thoughts on the project.
ZDTravis Books -- www.zdtravis.com & www.zdtravisbooks.com
ZDTravis is an indie publisher of photo books.
First out is a series of small books of approximately 30 pages each entitled IN THE GUTTER. For details on the first book, see www.in-the-gutter.info.
IN THE GUTTER 2 is completed. We are actively seeking photographers to participate in this series. When there are 8-10 books ready, we will release a box set of all the books. Future series with different themes will follow.
Other than www.in-the-gutter.info and owning the URLs seen above, we do not have a web presence yet.
For now, we will use for an email address.
We are looking for someone to create a bright and fresh brand identity including logo, color scheme, graphic style, etc.
-- the is no special meaning to ZD or ZDTravis
-- the initials Z, D, and T may be used together to create graphic element(s)
-- photo books by fine art photographers
-- each book design guided by submitting photographer
-- once finished and printed, photographer receives 10 copies
-- photographer may order as many books thereafter for $XX
-- book may be included in curated box set
Once the identity is accepted, it will be used to create a Wordpress web site. The site needs to present the story and image of ZDTravis Books, list titles for sale in a shopping cart format; have link to Paypal for payment; include a submission page for photographers.
On this site (http://www.bookmarket.com/101publishers.htm) there are many independent book publisher web sites. I suggest that you research the identities and web sites of other book publishers to get an idea of what exists now. Use what you discover to create something new, fresh, bold, and exciting.
Here are some I like:
-- http://www.dodgeandburn.com/ (not a book site but like the "indie" style)
-- http://www.steerforth.com/ (simple)
-- http://books.wwnorton.com/books/index.aspx (large success traditional publisher)
Here are three that are mediocre:
-- http://nicholasbrealey.com/boston/ (it loads too slowly)
And here are three that are awful:
Web Site Guidelines
-- white space is GOOD
-- little to no vertical scrolling
-- customer/submitter log in
-- shopping cart
-- link to Facebook
If you are capable, this project can include the creation of a Wordpress web site template as well.
