We invite a bid to develop a simple, public-interest site using either Drupal, Joomla, or Wordpress.
Purpose: To provide information on who is sponsoring “hate radio” to stimulate feedback to those sponsors that some (we hope many) consumers will hesitate to buy from them because of this.
The stimulus for this initiative is the belief that hate radio is a, if not the, major force destroying public policy processes in the U.S. And that this well could lead to the fall of the government and the demise of democracy.
User Case: We envision this being an extremely simple site for four types of users:
A. Casual drop-ins to gain some insight into the issues relating to hate radio [information]. The site should draw interest.
B. Intentional users who know the site and want to check on which companies sponsor hate radio so as to protest to them, or at least to avoid them in a purchasing decision. For instance, if I in Atlanta am looking for a Toyota, I’d like to learn which dealers do and which do not sponsor hate radio.
C. Intentional users who contribute information on hate radio sponsors. Someone would enter
• the sponsor name
• hate show on in the time period heard
• date, time & station (# or call letters)
D. Fact-checkers – someone deliberately (e.g., a sponsor or radio station representative) or casually (e.g., user types A, B, C) who wants to validate or refute a reported sponsorship. We want a mechanism to tally such points of view.
We would like the users to be able to sort the information several ways, e.g.:
• By hate personality (show)
• By radio station
• By sponsor name
• By sponsor’s industry sector
So, one could click on a show and see its advertisers. Or, click on a company and see which personalities it sponsors. Or, click on a sector (e.g., electronics retailers) to see which companies sponsor which shows. And so forth.
Site Content: This should be simple, cool, and even fun to visit. We want to easily manage that content ourselves. This would include posting modest amounts of “hate news.” It would be good to be able to categorize content and add categories as interest emerges (e.g., political campaign information, initiatives to restore “equal time” policy).
Managing the sponsor information should be as self-sustaining as possible. That is, objections to a sponsor-show link should be available on a “wiki” type basis. We could step in to remove wrong information, but we would not need to continually monitor for this.
Data entry on the sponsor-show observations should be extremely easy for the user. We would like options for users to offer opinions on topics, but want to keep this somewhat limited we think.
We want to manage spam as well as possible – i.e., make it hard for spambots to spam the site, e-mail us (overcome screening tasks), etc.
We have a very basic database setup to help you understand what we want to do:
