I work for a very small, private college in Central Florida. We have recently converted our collection of VHS tapes to a digital format (.vob/.mpg and .wmv for streaming). We have ~200 titles in our collection.
Currently, I have the .wmv files available to all users just as a shared link, meaning they click the desktop shortcut, it opens a shared folder on the servers, the videos are available. Easy.
I'd like to have someone create a customized "jukebox-style" display where the instructors can select their subject and the relevant video choices be displayed including a link to the same .wmv files that will then open in their default player *(for example, the Psychology teacher opens the GUI, selects Psychology, and a list of available videos is displayed)*.
As of now, I have an MS Access database, including cover art scans of the individual titles that need to be displayed. This db will most likely need to be converted to "something" else.
In short, a multimedia server interface:
-Convert MS Access db to another format (relying on the coder's expertise here...)
-Develop a GUI to access that db
-Must be compatible with at least Server 2003
-focus more on a reliable GUI than flashiness.
-Web access and mobile options are of no concern.
