The number of bids is overwhelming so here are some clarifications based on questions that we have received.
What is our criteria for selection.
1. Long term partner, that will work with us through elance.com
2. Ability to help us select the right project. Current app is MS Access
with VB Script, Future direction is VB in house and limited web based access for clients. We have laid out our plan, but if a better one exists we are open to discussion.
3. More than one programmer, a company not an individual.
4. Ability to support the application during US business
hours.
5. Jobs are done on time, on budget.
6. No bait and switch, if the job can't be done for the price we agree to, don't accept the job.
The current application is in Microsoft Access, it is NOT a VB application. There are 200+tables, 200+reports, 50+Queries, and 200+forms with a
bunch of VBScript which makes it an application.
There are 12 users on the current system and thousands of records which make the database 200MB compressed.
The company is a Benefits Administration company. Meaning, we provide services to US companies to manage the health, dental,
medical, health saving accounts, vision, and any other benefits they provide their employees. This application tracks, companies, their employees, Plans, Employee Elections, Claims, Eligibility, and all items related to the benefits our US clients offer their employees. You will be working with a
database that is full of bogus information due to US law. You will never have access to the live database once it is in use. Take this into account for the support requirements of the application.
What version of MS SQL are we using, and would we be interested in utilizing Stored
Procedures. We would probably like to use SQL 2005, and yes we are interested in stored procedures, or any other recommendation you might have which provides better performance, and a better platform for our future direction.
How much VBScript code exists. Hard to quantify, but I ran the
documentation wizard in Access and the report was 16,000 pages. Consider the number of tables, reports, and forms and the verbosity of the report.
Would you like to stay in Access 2003 as the front end, or would you consider a VB application. We are open to either, consider the direction we
are trying to go, support, long term relationship. If the current project is not the right direction in your estimation, please note that in your Post and we will take it into consideration.
How do you want us to bid on a long term relationship. My preference would be that you bid on the
current project, but in the PM put what a retainer amount would be to provide support for whatever project you are recommending on a monthly basis. Please consider the requirement for US hours of support.
Several people have commented that the correct way to do this project is a 3-tier
architecture. We are in agreement with that, we anticipated doing the current project as a quick fix to our performance issues and then working with someone to design and develop a system which reflects a 3-Tier Architecture.
Finally, I found this on another post and decided to include it as
our terms as well for this project and all ongoing work.
1. The job can be delivered on time and on budget, with regular updates on the progress of work. During the development period, daily progress reports should be provided.
2. I can see a working demo that shows all of the requested
features before I make payment.
3. We can do the money swap via getafreelancer escrow.
4. You assure full confidentiality for the job and respect my intellectual property by not using any code or data I give you access to without my permission.
5. All rights to the code are assigned to me,
and no code is encrypted or obscured in any way.
6. In providing any code you can make the assurance that no copyright or intellectual property rights are being infringed.
7. The code is fully documented.
I am asking for all those that are interested to please post a PM as to your
acceptance/understanding to these changes. Those that do not post a PM referring to this clarification will be considered not interested in performing the work.
